As word spread of Jesus’ teachings and his healing of people’s sicknesses and afflictions, crowds from all over the region started following him (Matthew 4:23–25). It was then that Jesus gave what is arguably his most famous teaching. A lot of people call it the GOAT of sermons, the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5–7). It is in this sermon where he focuses on going deeper into the heart of mankind. Holiness is far deeper than outward behavior obedience; it’s a matter of the heart, and we need a new heart brought only by the gospel.
